Soggy Sunday

Hey! you're coming with me

Well after the fairly glorious weather, normal service has been resumed : rain!

The Mother Blackbird, we think, has hatched her 2nd brood, and the Robin is still feeding its fledgling (which looks bigger than the parent).

Our Robin trying to keep dry under the vine

We Sparhawk Scotties just will not budge an inch – we can smell rain – and will keep our legs crossed for hours until we get a gentle “kick up the bum” to go out!

Hope your weekend’s not too soggy.

Arrroooo

Is Summer really here?

What a fantastic few weeks we’ve had (here in the Midlands). Not a drop of rain for at least 3 weeks. Garden looks “blooming” although I have to keep watering it.

Our garden is a wildlife “sanctuary” with nearly all the features wildlife adore. Running water, stream, overgrown bushes to hide in from predators, plenty of sunny aspects for nest building, and for me too, it is fabulous to watch the wildlife living in my front garden.

Yes, it’s my turn to write something for the start of May – my boys have done a fabulous job over the last couple of months, but if it doesn’t involve food, then they are not really interested, and this “blog” is about me, watching wildlife – yeah I know some of it would have been food for the scotties if they had not been domesticated, but they have.

There is often competition for food – for example just today I was sitting watching the Starlings make an utter mess of the fat balls I made for them, with Bobby nosing around beneath the feeders, picking up the bits that fall to the ground. Unfortunately I didn’t have my camera to hand otherwise there would have been a picture to support this.

Gus reaches 12 years old

Phew! Gus is 12 years old today. What a fantastic day. His favourite toys have been bought – a bag of tennis balls. But he only gets one to play with until it’s been “destroyed”. He’ll play “chase” with it for days and days, and then on a whim, the poor thing thats given him pleasure – gets the chop by his teeth! It’s so much fun watching him. We’ll be off for a walk shortly,  nice ramble in the woods near our house – he love’s it

Bobby & Finlay’s 8th Birthday

Bobby (on the left) and Finlay celebrate their 8th Birthday today.

We’ll go for a walk, Gus included, in the local woods. Run, hop and wobble over the stepping stones and have a great time sniffing every blade of grass.

Fin gets very mardy as he doesn’t like twigs getting entangled in his coat. We stop often to remove them!!

Then it’s back home for carrot and apple treat, after having the “undercarriages” washed clear of mud!
