Scottie Health Awareness Day

Mama’s more serious bloggy “Scottish Terrier Health Network” voted on and decided to have a Scottie Health Awareness Day. This is taking place on Thursday 11th July 2013. It’s a day to contemplate the seriously declining health of us Scotties and to think of ways to “Make A Difference” to our overall well-being. It should also a day of celebration – we don’t want all doom and gloom now do we!

P1060685I’ve picked out the official tartan ribbon – it’s called Pride of Bannockburn – this is linked to the chosen date of 11th July being the birthday of Robert the Bruce (1274) and the fact that he defeated the English at Bannockburn in 1314 which helped Scotland see it’s way to independence (for a while). I’ve been wearing my ribbon with pride even though Dada think’s it’s silly ‘cos I’m a boy and not a girl!

Anyway, if you could spare a moment during 11th July to think about Scotties then that would be great. And even better perhaps you could send Mama a photo of you doing this thinking so she can post it on the serious bloggy.

This is the first year for the Scottie Health Awareness Day and as we’re scattered all around the world it might be great to see what we all do on what hopefully will become a special day for Scotties. This year though, it might well be a wash-out …. just like our English summer is likely to be.

Anyway, as Lao Tzu said “This journey of a thousand miles begins beneath one’s feet” or the more modern version “….. begins with a single step” – this is Mama’s starting point. She knows the road will be long and difficult, but She’s willing to do it.

Send your photos to general@scottishterrierhealth.com – they’ll be displayed on that bloggy!

Potato Chips-Kyla Style

Got Mama to have a go at these – not quite right yet – think the guitar she used was the wrong type. Hey ho! I’ll make sure she keeps trying!

Here’s her attempt …..

When I had pancreatitis, the dogtor told me I had to be on a low fat diet for the rest of my life. The pancreas processes fat, he said. Restricting me from eating anything does not sit well with me. We did come up with Kyla Chips. You take a sweet potato, peel it and use a mandolin to make thin slices. If you don’t have a mandolin, a guitar might do in a pinch. Put the slices in a 350F (175C) on parchment paper on a tray and put into the oven. After about 10 minutes, turn the slices over and give it 8 more. You’ll get the hang of the time depending on how thin you slice the potato. You use no oil, no seasonings, no salt, no anything. Here’s my Kyla Chip tray

Remembering my brother Gus

Oh My! I cannot believe that a whole year has passed since Gussie left us for the Rainbow Bridge. I do make sure he keeps putting in an appearance on what is now classified as “Bobby’s Blog” as I’m currently the only Sparhawk Scottie in residence.

Gus, looking handsome, one of our favourite photos

I hope you don’t mind a re-run of last years post photos, the one we did just before he crossed the bridge.

Now I don’t want you guys to be all down and depressed ‘cos for some of you you’ll be getting ready to celebrate Independence Day – so I’ll leave you to your preparations and hope that you all have a grrrreat day. For the rest of my friends around the world, I hop you also have a grrreat day, but in a quieter fashion!

Flashback Fridays

Now then! I thought the last Flashback was a long time ago, back to 2001, but this one – well, this goes back millions of years …..

A dinosaur footprint. This was taken at Staffin Beach on the Isle of Skye. It’s quite famous for it’s footprints of dinosaurs. There’s quite a few, but this is, apparently, by far the best. Oh, and the photo of me ….. yes over to your right and down a bit, yes that’s right, the black & white one of me on the rocks, well thats taken up there on the Isle of Skye. Brilliant place, I miss visiting it. I’ll have to have words with them and perhaps we can do a visit next year and get some up to date photos for you guys.

Anyway ….. enjoy this footprint!

and this is my footprint ….. not quite as old. Ha! Ha!

Sweet William The Scot and Lee

Sweet William The Scot
Sweet William The Scot

I was extremely sorry to read that Sweet William The Scot and his beloved Lee are no longer blogging. I would like to wish them good health during the months to come, but not sure if they’ll see this post ….. I do hope they can drop by blogsville once in a while. I can’t even wish them well on the new chapter in their lives …..

If anyone can keep me informed I would be really really grateful. I’m worried that they are out there on their own ….. just the two of them …..

Sweet William The Scot, and your devoted Lee – I thank you for all the pleasure you have given; all the competitions you did that we nearly had a go at; and all the wonderful posts about the place you live. I’m sure the rest of blogsville will agree with me when I say that you will be missed!

Thank you Sweet William The Scot for being our friend!
